It is officially stated that the Russian vanguard occupied five points in the enemy's territory, and the enemy's forward movements have been stopped since the 'l4lth inst. All encounters resulted in favor of the Russians. Several hundred Germans have been taken prisoners. Received 19, 5.15 pjn. ' St. Petersburg, August 18. Russians destroyed a German aeroplane at Samms, on the Finnish coast. Three aviators were killed. A HEROIC EXPLOIT. St. Petersburg, August 18, Details of Kruitchkoff's exploit show that, with four Cossacks, he charged twenty-two German cavalry. He sabred the officer, but his sword slipped from his hand. He thereupon seized a German lance and killed ten more. [lt. was reported on Monday that Kruitchkotf had been decorated for killing eleven Germans single-handed. He sustained thirteen wounds and his horse eleven.] As APPEAL TO GALICIANS. "THROW OFF THE FOREIGN YOKE." St. Petersburg, August 18. The Grand Duke Nicholas appealed to the Russian inhabitants of Galicia to let 'the country throw off the foreign yoke and raise the banner of a united Russia, an indivisible land. ROYAL FAMILY AT THE FRONT. St. Petersburg, August 18. Eleven members of tihe Royal Family are at the front. ON SACRED SOIL. THE CZAR'S PURPOSE IN MOSCOW. The Czar took part in a great procession at the Cathedral of the Assumption at the Kremlin at Moscow, where a solemn act of worship was held, having historical significance in the Russian army's work. (The Kremlin is the citadel of Moscow, the most sacred spot in the vast Russian Empire. The Cathedral of the Assumption is the most,notable of the religious buildings-within this enclosure).
