KfRI ROAD. ■Messrs Grey and Clements (sawmiliers) -waited on the Council, ly request, to discuss the Kiri Road taffic, expla mi :ng that at the present time -.lie millers pay threepence royalty on every 100 ft of timbw carted over this raid. The road is in a bad stale "and £BO overdrawn. Clements contended nJiat the royalty was too much. It should give the Council £ot)0 to work on. He was prepared to take the stand 'that the millers should maintain the road, and expressed .he opinion that it could be done on one penny mi IOWt iK-yaity. The deputation was prepared to consider the proposal to take over the maintenance of the .metal-way of the road and give a. decided answer for next Council •nceting. NEW HOSPITAL. J The Taranaki Hospital Board asked for i-lif Council's share of the buildin" loan. The progress payment for the new hospital amounted to £!KXXI. Jt was imperative the Council should forward their share to enable. The Board to meet their liabilities.—The members admi.ted the Council JAul not wild up as it should have done, owing to the trouble of rusing the loan.—The chairnitui moved that°a re. ply be sent that the Board hope to forward £IOOO during next month. PATRIOTIC FUND. ; The chairman moved that £IOO be donated to the Patriotic Fund in connect/ion with the expeditionary forceSeconded by Cr Maxwell and carried. COMPLAINTS. Cr Willcox asked if it was necessary to .keep stone-breakers, to break s.one's after the stone had been crushed and spread. Cr Campbell asked if it wag in the. best interests of finance to have four men to keep one horse and dray going in carting out metal; also if i; was usual for the men to start work at !) am. In the former case, ilia engineer said it was only necessary for 4 niau at odd times to nap crushed metal. Four men were not working at the dray alone. Two were picking i.p the road, one spreading, and one in the pit.
