INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent). The patriotic spirit has a good hold in Inglewood. The .Mayor (Mr. Young) and Mr. W. 10. Pcoival have met with good response to their canvass .■for funds. The donations to date amount to £255, one horse and two | c-rates of cheese. Yesterday afternoon J a meeting convened by the Mayoress was wet! attended by the ladies, who are very keen to do what they can to provide necessities and comforts for those going to the front. The proceeds of the military ball to lie held bv the C Company, XI. Regiment (Taranaki Rifles) on August '27 are to be devoted to the patriotic fund, so the committee are sparing no pains in endeavoring to make the ball a huge success. The local cribbage tournament was advanced another stage last niglit, when Bowlers (23 games) defeated Pirates (20 games), and Fire Brigade (29 games) defeated Eginont Village (21 games).' To-day the Government Stock Inspector was in attendance at Mr. C. Ladbrook's Inglewood stables for the purpose of purchasing horses suitable for transport and other work at the front. A good number of horses were offered, and most of them were taken over by the Defence Department. August 12, 11)14. •
