It is understood the ships are intended to carry troops and reservists from Canada to England. Alberta province has offered a full war supply of Albertan oats for the British army. British Columbia is offering supplies of apples and canned salmon for the British troops. * Owing to the rush to enlist, the Ottawa authorities are .raising the sta/n----dnrd, and only .picked troops will be •sent from Canada. A strange vessel in the St. Lawrence caused the closing of the ports. The Militia Department is investigating. It is thought likely to be a German cruiser recently sighted oil' Newfoundland.
