London reports the death ef Sir Charles Lucas, the first man to wim the Victoria Cross. A London cablegram reports that Princess Arthur <jf Connaught has given birth to a son. . Mr. J. Gordon Coates, M.P. for Kaipara, was married at Wellington last week to Miss M&rjorie Coles, daughter tof Dr. Walker Coles, of London. Lieutenant-General J. M. Roberts, N.Z.C., retired list, with a total commissioned service to August 31, 1903, of over 24 years, has been awarded the colonial auxiliary forces officers' decoration. The death occurred yesterday of Mr Walter H. Boulton, fourth son of the late G. G. and Mrs. Boulton, of New Plymouth, Mr. Boulton's death, at the early age of 28 years, will be deeply regretted by a wide circle of freinds. For 1 many years he was an active member of tin; Star Football Club, and was also a member of the Hunt Club, the Coursing Club and the East End Pigeon Flying Club. Hp was a fhniliar figure at the leading North Island agricultural shows, whero ho has competed in many jumping competitions with marked success, carrying off the highest honors as a horseman. He was a keen judge of , horses and owned many good ones. Pro bably he was hest known to the sporting world outside of New Plymouth as owner and rider of the horse Alpine, with ''which he won a number of important jumping events and several steeplechases. Ho also steered Otaraoa and other horses to victory, and for three consecutive years he rode the winner of the local Hunt Club Steeplechase, his last success being last year's eveafc. Ho will be greatly missed in sporting circles, and his wife (a daughter of Mr. J(. Ward), who'is left with one child three months old, will have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends, will be buried to-day, the funeral leaving ins mother's residence} Devon street at 2 p.m.
