GERMANS ARRESTED. Christclmrch Last Night. In all, about half-a-dozen German reservists have been arrested in Canterbury, and, under instructions received, these are all being handed over to the military authorities and sent to Wellington. Mr. Heinsen, secretary to the German Consul in Christchurch, was arrested this morning, and will be sent to Wellington by this evening's boat. Invercargill, Last Night, A German reservist, a fireman on the Manuka, from Sydney, was arrested at Bluff to-day. Timaru, Last Night. 'M. Hurzell, a well-to-do German reservist, who has been living at Temuka for some months in a house on his own property, was arrested last evening. HOKITIKA. Hokitika, Last Night. A meeting of the Territorial forces of this district was held in the Drillshcd to-night. Captain Jeffries was in command. After addressing the men, lie invited applications from those willing to serve at the front, and fifty-six responded to Ci !( . call, including the captain and the whole of the A Company, 13th Regiment, besides privates and excontingenters. The proceedings were of a most enthusiastic nature, and as the men lined up to sign on they were greeted with loud cheers by the large gathering of citizens. The mayors of Hokitika and Ross and others addressed tho assemblage. The British and French national anthems were sung. Substantial amounts have already handed to the local defence authorities, and a ladies' committee has been most successful m securing material and other articles for the general comfort of the volunteers. The amount includes donations of £SOO from the Napier Park Racing Club, £3OO from E vv. Knowles, £250 from the Aapier Brewery Co. and £250 from the Napier Gas Co.
