MOTUROA FREEZING WORKS

ANNUAL REPORT. li> tho thirteenth yearly report and ibalance-sheet, to bo laid before the general meeting of the shareholders at New Plymouth on Saturday, 29th August, the directors state that at the beginning of the year there were in store, 6269 boxes of butter and "210 eases of cheese. There wore received during the year, 167,532 boxes of butter (an increase on the previous year of 15,017 boxes), and also 02,718 crates of cheese (an increase on the previous year of 20,378 crates). 13G,(j'73 boxes of butter were shipped to London, 4,102 to the West of England ports, 2,453 to Vancouver, 460 to South Africa, 22,248 to local and otiher ports. 82,551 crates of cheese went to London, 10,335 to the West of England, leaving 7,775 boxes of butter, and 42 crates of cheese in store on 30th June, IDI4. Owing to the Waterside Workers' strike and the consequent holding up of the Home boats, a great amount of extraordinary work was caused to the company, and heavy additional expense was entailed. The increased accommodation provided two years ago was fully taxed, but fortunately proved sufficient. Notwithstanding the large increase in the amount of butter and cheese handled, there has been a decrease in the receipts as shown in the Profit and Loss Account. This is accounted for by the fact that a much smaller amount of meat has been put through the woTks and by a reduction in other items of revenue oi curing during the previous year. It will probably be neceasary for the Directors to revise the present rate of charges on produce. Tho question of providing facilities for handling cheese at a much lower temperature that hitherto, is also under consideration. On this point, it is desirable that representatives of all cheese producing companies should be present at the annual meeting so that the matter may be fully discussed and a decision arrived at. The holding of the cheese in the works at a lower temperture will largely increase the cost to the Company. After providing for depreciation, there remains a balance of £63 4s 7d to bo dealt with.
