CANADA'S OVERWHELMING VOLUN- | TEERS. 1 WHOLESALE ARRESTS OP ALIINS. Received 9, 8.30 a.m. Ottawa, August 7. 'Phe Government lias completed a scheme to provide pensions for all iajured, and to provide suitably for those called to action. Recruiting has ceased throughout the Dominion, owing to the impossibility of enrolling the enormous number of volunteers, whole regiments of militia enlisting en masse. Wealthy Canadians are insuring the lives of certain numbers of soldiers against death. The Liberal headquarters have issued a statement offering their assistance in any plans devised by the Government for the Empire's assistance at this time of the national danger. The Government is arresting all German and Austrian reservists, and is proposing to keep them under guard until the war is ended. Armed guards have been selected to protect all the railways.

When Bishop Budka, head of the Ukranians in Saskatchewan, ordered the members of his church to return to fight on Austria's behalf, the citii-ens of Corktown and other Saskatchewan towns held a mass meeting and petitioned Mr. Borden to deport the Bishop and the iUkranian colony as traitors. An attempt was made to dynamite the Canadian Norbliern Railway near Feilding. station, Parry Sound. The discovery of explosives was made before any damage was effected. Armed guards have been placed at various points along the chief Canadian railways. The British Government has formally accepted Canada's offer to send an army corps to England. The force will probably ! be held there for a fortnight for additional training. A Winnipeg mob stoned the German and Austrian Consulates and partially wrecked them, The Consulates were afterwards closed. It is understood that the British CloTernment is making in arrangement to send all prisoners of war to Canada, as Canadian forces are available 'to guard them, thus leaving the British forces free to guard Britain. Halifax (Nova Scotia), August 7. The Oedric refused to sail owing to the proximity of German cruisers. It is untrue that any attempt was made to shell the Glace Bay wireless stations.

The United States has stationed the battleship Florida across the harbor "to prevent the Vaterland and other German steamers leaving with provisions and supplies for tlie cruisers.
