There are three Gorman dirigibles over the Brussels district. The military, authorities announce that aviators from Liege explored the regions which are stated to be invested and found no trace.of invaders. The German Minister at The Hague has given a positive assurance that Germany will respect the neutrality of the Netherlands provided that Holland strictly observes neutrality. The Belgians, foreseeing the German advance, blew up railway tunnels and bridges over the. Mouse River. Mcrn--I,r of Parliament are enlisting in the sinr.y. Received 5, 10.40 p.m. Brussels, August 5. It U officially reported that fierce fighting occurred in the environs of Liege, on the Belgian frontier, early this morning. All the German attacks were repulsed, and no German who passed the forts survived.
Ono soldier flung himself upon the German ranks, killed four, and then returned to his comrades. The general situation in Belgium is excellent. It is reported that Fort Licrs routed two regiments of cavalry which crossed tflic Meuse, and prevented the infantry crosaing. * A Gazette states that the seventh and tenth German army corps have reached Harve (in Belgian territory), Prcpinstcr and Remouchanips, and fired on certain forts on the Meuse. London, August 5. Germany's ultimatum promises Belgium, if Germany's wishes are granted, to maintain the independence of Belgium and her possessions. The Daily Mail sees in this an implied threat to seize the Congo in the event of a refusal. Count Lichnowsky, German Ambassador in London, is authorised to state that the reported German invasion of France is incorrect, hut states that, on the contrary, French troops crossed into Germany. SUPERB BELGIAN HEROISM. ErGHT HUNDRED GERMAN WOUNDED. Received 0. 11.15 p.m Brussels, August 6. The War Oflice states that the German losses were enormous, and the heroism of the Belgians superb. Eight hundred wounded Germans are coming to Brussels. The Cennans built a bridge, but the Vise forts destroyed it. Later the German cavalrv forded the river above Vise. Renter's Brussels correspondent savs the Germans were completely repulsed at Fisnn.
