Mr;' Cook is not in sympathy with the proposal to postpone the Federal election, or that all opposition to sitting members should be withdrawn. The miners in the Maitland mines who struck against the. afternoon shift have declined the Labor Department's suggestion that in view of the war they should resume, although they are prepared to resume on the one-shift basis. A meeting of Cermans in the Mallawalla district adopted a resolution of unswerving loyalty to the British flag, and as Australian-born arc prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder with Australians, and to give their blood and their money for the defence of the country and the British flag, no matter who the invaders may be. Adelaide, August 5. The Assembly adopted the Address-in-Reply, and cheered the Governor's reply tlhcreto, expressing the hope that peace would soon be restored and that the British nation would emerge from the 'war stronger, wiser and more confident than ever. The Assembly then adjourned till Tuesday.
