A CALL TO PRAYER AND NATIONAL REPENTANCE.
(To the Eilitor.l Sir.—Now that we are on the brink of a great calamity I would appeal to Cod's children throughout the land -tiliiat we may give, ourselves,- to- prayer and confession of our great national sins, that God may yet, spam our nation from the tnrible cn-'amiity of a devastating war. We are so apt to leave God out of our reckoning, and trust to unholy aMianci r , w:i:cli can never save us from the just judgment of. God feir gircat rational sins -But God is long-suffering, gracious and merciful, and ever ready to forgive, if we confess our sins anil repent. W ilh God on our side and national 1 igliteousna-b we have nothing to fear. The great national crime of the Empire is. a::d has been for many years, the forcing upon China, by an iniquitous treaty our vile opium drug for the sake of ,nion ',v. There are, also many other great sins which are very manifest to those who have eyes to see; in our Dominion w.. might mention the sin and dishonor to God in withholding "His Word'' from our children in Hie State school-: also the licensing of the drink tiaflk' Hicughoiit the British Empire. Let, us thank God that He has so far jr-ar-d n; from being involved in ibis terrible v-ar calamity, and pray thai. He may vet de'iver us.
