The Auckland B team was weakened by tin- exclusion of the City and Varsity players, while Taranaki was suffering from the effects of the long train journey of the previous day. Nevertheless the match was fast and exciting. Thy Taranaki forwards were mum superior to the locals, and showed better combination. Paul captained Taranaki. and 'McDonald Auckland. Taranaki, tost the toss and kicked off with the glare of the sun and the wind in their faces. At once the Auckland ers got busy, and fine passing bouts and kicks well followed up tested the visitors' defence;, they being forced three times in a few minutes. Then, Kupe attempted to 'open up the, game, but Candy intercepted his pass and handed on to Barker, who passed to M'Donald as he was collared.
