CHILD KILLED BY TRUCK. By Telegraph—Press Association. Greyimauth, Last Night. A sad fatality occurred at Patara on Saturday whereby a little girl, aged about nine years lost her We. Hen father, Adam Blair, junr., of Stratford Blair's sawmill, was hauling logs to the mill by mean% of a locomotive and trucks. The child waa amusing herself by putting crossed nails on the line to bf flattened by the passing trucks. She evidently thought the last truck had passed, stooped to pick up 'nails, and was struck by the following truck which passed over her, killing her instantly in front of her mother, who came ont of the louse at the moment. DEATH AFTER AN OPERATION. Hamilton, Last Night. At the inquest on Hayman Eljmers, aged 40, of Marakopa, who died during an operation at the Waikato hospital oh Friday, the evidence showed that deceased was out shooting in the bugh and rested his> gun against his leg. The weapon slipped and he picked it up by the barrel, which discharged, the shotentering and shattering his wrist He travelled through the bush all next dav. arriving at the Waikato hospital on Friday night. After the operation. Wood was noticed .oozing through the stitches indicating that an artery was unstitched. The was re-opened and blood was observed to hare ceased flowing altogether, and the patient collapsed. Restoratives were applied, but he died a few minutes later. Dr Douglas operated, and Dr Cameron administered anaesthetics. Dr. Douglas stated death was due to shock from the wound, the operation and the anaesthetic.
