V.A.T.C. STEEPLECHASE. WIN FOR CAPINTESTA. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright Received 1, 5.5 p.m. Melbourne, August 1. The V.A.T.C. steeplechase meeting was held to-day the Steeplechase (of 1500 sovs., 3% miles) resulting as follows: — Oapintesta, 9.0 (Hagerty) 1 Obi, 11.-11 (Hawkins) 2 Taurus, 9.5 (Pearse) 3 All the acceptors started. Flash Jack took the lead from Lord Grey, Darrawa and Bill Brandon. When Darrawa fell at the first hurdle, Capintesta assumed command, and fast assumed the lead past floe judge's box, and increased the advantage into straight. From there the race was a procession. The second time round Capintesta was twenty lengths ahead of Bill Brandon, followed by Lord Grey, Obi and Flash Jack, and won easily by eight lengths, Obi a length ahead of Taurus. Time, 6min 46y 2 sec.
