COLONIAL WINES.
A 'MISLEADING STATEMENT. Per Press Association. Wellington, July 30. . In April last a caDlo from London mentioned that the Wine Trade Club had tasted a number of wines, and decided that the Cawarra brand was a long way above the others. Exception has been taken to this message by Messrs Penfold and Co., on the ground that this was merely a private trial, and neither they or other firms had been asked to submit samples or knew nothing about the experiment. Enquiry shows this is correct, and that the message was misleading. The club mentioned is merely a social and educational club, and though it holds periodical tastings, they | are for comparative, not competitive purposes, and ar.e not in the nature of a public competition on a broad basis. The opinion expressed was merely the president's, and evidently only bad reference to such wines as were before the club. It cannot, therefore, be regarded as in any way authoritative or detrimental to growers who were not represented.
