THE TRAMWAYS.
NEGOTIATIONS COMPLETE. ALL TENDERS LET. At a special meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council last night, tenders were accepted for the remaining two contracts in connection with the installation of the tramway system—namely, those for the supply of cars and For the equipment of the necessary sabstation. Tlie successful tenderers, and also the lowest, were Messrs F. S. Greenshields and Co., of Wellington, who seeured the first contract. For the sub-station equipment the tenders were as follows, the various prices being for different makes of equipment: P. S. Greenshields and Co., Wellington (time, twelve months): (1) £3510; (2) £36(54; (3) £3350. Jas. J. Niven and Co., Wellington (11 months): £3720 17s. Turnbull and Jones, Wellington: (1) £404!); ("2) £4039; (3) £3946. Anderson's, Ltd., Christchurcli (time not stated), £4359 14s. The Council accepted Messrs Greenshields and Co.'s tender, at £3664, for the Electric Construction Co.'s equipment, with the right to accept the RnssPeeble equipment at £3510, if desired. For the cars the tenders were:— Greenshields and Co. (14 months), £BOI2 16s, £7985 15s, £8145 15s, National Electrical and Engineering Co.,' Wellington (8 months, or to be arranged), £-8001 17s, £7i)o4 13s, £BO3B 13s, £7649 18s. Turnbull and Jones, Wellington (10 months) £8371 7s and £Bl3l 7s. The price of £BOI2 15s was accepted, the six cars to he. built by the Boon firm, of Christchureh. The total contract price for the whol.i work will be £46,926 4a I<l, as against the estimate two years ago of £42,710. The amount borrowed for the trams was £55,000, with a 10 per cent, margin if required.
