MR. SKVVTOK Kr.VG'S WEEKLY HAYMAIiKET REPORT. For my llaymarket sale at Stratford on Saturday last, there was a fair attendance of the public. Pigs were penned in smaller numbers than usual, Prices ruling were slack at the commencement of the sale, but improved as the sale went on, all lines being cleared at the hammer. I quote: —Slips and weaners 10s fid, lis to 14s 6d; small stores, 17s to 235; medium, 23s to 29s 6d; sows, £4 10s, £5, £5 5s to £5 15s; pedigrc boars, £i 15s; milk cans, 255; Midhirst Factory shares, 17s; Stratford 'Dairy Co. shares, 7s to 10s. Poultry, sundries, etc., sold in favor of buyers." GENERAL. Stratford was very much alive yesterday, the town boing the meeting-plaee of a large number of motor-cars, and the attraction the football match between Waimate and Clifton. j
Whangamomona has started a Carnival Queen contest, and the liveliest interest is being taken in the project. Messrs MeMeekin and McDonald are attending to the secretarial work, and the tickets are already in circulation. The Stratford Fire Brigade has arranged a number of functions in aid of its candidate fo the Stratford Carnival Queen. Among the monev-raising schemes the lirigade has initiated a judging competition as to the number of votes received by tile Queen. A meeting of householders at Denbigh road passed the following resolution:—"That this meeting emphatically protests against the abolition of the Taranaki education district as proposed in the Dill now before the House, and is of opinion that step is detrimental to the best interests of education in Taranaki; and that the district as proposed in the Bill is unworkableand that the schools in this district can be best worked from XeW'Plvmoutn, thf present education centre for Taranaki." The Whangamomona County Council also passed a resolution protesting against the abolition of the Tar.inaki Board of Education.

HorisoH, whose remarks were to a large extent inaudible, opposed the scheme for the following reasons:—That there wei ■ other and much more important works to be undertaken; that he preferred a loan of £IO,OOO or £12,000 for street improvements, including kcrbing and onannelhng; then would come the improved water service, and possibly a new pipe-line, and finally, in the near future there was the possibility of the acquisition and improvement of the electric l'ffht undertaking. In view of thee possibilities he did not think it wise to press for water and drainage at this juncture.
