DEPUTATION TO THE MINISTER 01-' EDUCATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 26. A Bibie-in-Sehools League, deputation waited on the Minister for Education yesterday and urged that the peopleshould be givejl the right to decide for themselves whether should be given in schools. Rev. John Patterson, of Christchurch, said that the New South Wales system worked without friction, and lie pronounced it a success. That was the system that they wanted in New Zealand. The 'lion. Jas. Allen', in reply, said that petitions had been received, anrl would jiave to be considered. He thought tlje secular system must he maintained,-but he wanted the question of .the referendum settled by Parliament. He pointed out that the Bill only asked that if this point were gained, there would be yet another step to take.
