The body of Ethel May Houghton, ' aged twenty-two, was found on the road outside the showgrounds at Broad-' meadow, Newcastle. The head was almost severed from the body. A bloodstained razor was found near. There are indications of a struggle, which lead the police to suspect it was a case of murder.
