A dividend of 10 per cent was declared, and £50,000 added to the reseiTe. NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY REPORT. On Friday, 17th inst., at my Waiwakailio yards, I had a full yarding of all clusses' of cattle, with a good attendance. Bidding throughout was keen, the demand for young cattle at the finish of tiie sale being quite unsatisfied. Three small dairy herds were offered, and a big list* of springing heifers and cows, these meeting with excellent competition, 153 head being cleared at the hummer before the store cattle sale commenced. Mr. Allan Soffe's cows sold at from £6 5s to £9 ss, empty cows £4 15s, small 2-year in-calf heifers £3 17s to .CI fls'. Mr. C. Southcombe's cows were not a good line, the best selling at from £7 to £9, others with every appearance of being empty, from £3 3s to £5. The cows sold in A. Klenner's estate were all second calvcrs, nice colored Jerseys, but unfortunately were low in condition and without any definite information about calving dates, selling at from £5 to £8 ss, empty looking small cows £2 12s 6d to £3 ss. Other prices obtained were: Choice springing heifers £7 10s to £8 ss, good

At Douglas on Monday 1 had a good entry of cattle and several pens cf sheep. Bidding vru- good and although vendors' reserves were ral.her high on several lines, in most cases sales were made at the hammer, and pra< Lually all that was left was cleau-d aiKu- the sal? at the following price::- -Warling heifers £2 os, £2 4s, Cl Hi., Hi. vearling steers £3 2s (id, £3. £2 lis fid', £2 Is Cd, empty 20-months heifers C 3 5s Od to £3 7s"for Shorthorns ami £3 16s for a colored line, young hails £3 os, stove cows £3 8s to £4 Bs, forward cows £5 ss, fat maiden heifers £0 14s, 20-i)ioiithß steers £4 2s, springing heifers £6 to £6 ss, in-calf jersey heifers £5 5s to £'s 10s, small heifers £4 and £4 Is, dairy cows £5 10s to £7 15s, pedigree Jersey bull lOgns, f.m. ewes 14s to 15s 10d, "fat 2-tooth ewes and wethers (small line) £1 4s. The dairy herd offered on account of Mr. A. Middlc.miss, Matau, was, with a few exceptions, looking very backward, and sold at from £7 15s to' £!) as, for any forward sorts and from £3 15s to £G 5s for the backward or empties. On the same day at Ngaire, for Mr. J. S. Phillip's clearing sale, there was a good attendance and bidding for all lines offered. The dairy herd was a very fine j line, but contained a big number of late 1 calvers and aged cows, and taking this I fact into consideration, the average obi taincd, £B, must he considered very satisfactory. Young cows, early calvers, sold at from £0 to £l3s 10s, others, a bit late, £6 to £7 10s, October calvers £4 5s to £5 10s, cows £7 10s, yearling heifers £2 2s 6d, bull £7 10s, Kidd milking plant £l2l, breeding sows £5 5s to £7 10s, farm horses £l6 10s to £lB. At Stratford yards on Tuesday, 21st inst., for my fortnightly cattle sale, I had a good entry of cattle. Best competition obtained for well-grown yearling heifers, of which class I had a good entry, mostly farmers' lines off turnips and looking in great fettle, and these good cattle were eagerly sought after. Store cows met with a ready sale. Prices obtained were: Weaner to yearling steers £2 la Od to £3 4s, vearling heifers £1 18s 6d to £2 18s,"smaller stuff £1 9s to £1 17s (id. empty 20-months heifers £3 9s, aged cows £2 5s and £2 40s, small store cows £3 2s to £3 9s, good stores to £4 Bs. forward cows £4 17s 6d to £5 Bs, f.m. ewes in lamb £1 0s 6d. The dairy cows advertised on account of Mrs. James Sharrock were a !very mixed line, and sold at from £5 Jos' to £8 10s, empties £3 10s to £i 17s Od. On account of other vendors, dairy cows made from £5 5s to £lO, j springing heifers £5 to £6 15s. On the same day at Rowan, for Mr.

A. J. Dempsey's sale, I had a good attendance. The dairy herd was a very fair average line, all selling at' from £6 15s to £lO 10s, and averaging just on £$ for the line.

On Wednesday, 22nd inst., at Toko, for Mr. J. S. McDonald's clearing sale, there was a very fair attendance. The dairy cows were a very good line, with a few backward, but made a nice average of £9 9s. Best cows sold up to £ls, good sorts up to £S 10s, backward stuff up to £5 2s 6d, heifers £5 to £7 ss, yearling heifers £2 Ids, pedigree Jersey bull Rigns, bay mare £2l Ms, store piga £ 1 14s, breeding sows £4 to £7.

I On the same day at Stony River yards 1 had a good entry and attendance, practically everything yarded being cleared at the hammer. Good springers were in much better demand than at recent sales, and in this class I would ask vendors for the rest of the dairy season, to refrain from bringing their lieifers to the saleyards until they are showing close up to calving. No 3-year heifers were offered, but some very nice quality 2-year-olds were disposed' of, the best realising from £0 12s 6d to £7 15s! others, from £5 10s to £0 ss; smaller heifers, £4 to .C 4 15s; yearling heifers from £1 ]!)s to £2 7s; smaller. £1 9s <>d to £1 12s; weaner to yearling steen £llos6dto.£2 17 S ;emn ty20 : i 2 C t , i 1 3 ' heifers, £3 5s fid to £3 13s; yearling Shorthorn bulls, £2 12s Gd to ~£i ss; store cows, £2 15s to £4 9s; good conditioned cows, £5 5s to £0 7s; hoggets, 14s Od; dairy cows, £6 5s to £8 10s; guaranteed cows, aged, £3 17s (id to £5 as.

| On Thursday, at Urenui yards, 1 conducted Mr. W. J. Bowman's clearing sale. There was a very good attendance of ilmyers from all over the district, but the cows wore disappointing, there being an exceptionally big number of very old cows. Any young cows well forward sold very well, making from £lO to £lB 10s; others, not too much age, from £6 to £9 ss; old cows, £2 14s to £4 10s. Private sales for the week as follows: Mixed yearlings, £2 17s; yearling steers, £2 Ins Od to £2 ISs; stove cows, £4fat cows, £0 10s and £0 12s 6d; heifers, springing and in calf, £4 to £8; dairy cows, £ls 15s, for a line of grade Jersey cows on account of a fancier of the breed; dairy herds, £5 10s to £10; fat wethers, 245; hoggets, 13s to 15s- fat ewes, 22s and 235"; mixed aged ew'es in lamb, 21s and 21s Od.
