Complainant alleged that defendant was on the wrong side of the road and (had no lights. The magistrate inflicted a fine of £3 and costs. He said it was the duty of a taxi-driver to stand by an injured person.

A RECORD IN BAIL. Auckland, Yesterday. In the Police Court, William Leslie Belot was charged' with having obtained £8 10s from a local drapery firm by false pretences. It was stated that sixteen other charges would be preferred. On the case being adjourned and application made for bail, the Magistrate said accused had ieft New Zea land for Australia, and skipped his bail there, so that, though he was entitled to bail as a right, it must be for a prohibitive amount. It would be himself in £2OOO, andi one surety of £2OOO, two of £IOOO each. DAYLIGHT SAVING. Napier, Yesterday. The Napier Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution in favor of the adoption of Mr. Sidey's Daylight-Saving Bill, and urjed member's for the district to accord it their support. The chamber also urged the Government to acquire the landi round Lake Waikaremoana as a scenic reserve. )
