A PAPUAN PARADOX.
I LESS CLOTHES, BETTER MORALS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright
Sydney, July 24. I The Bishop of New Guinea, who is [visiting Sydney, speaks most hopefully of the steady spread of Christianity amongst the natives. He will ordain two Papuans next month, which will be the beginning of a native ministry. The policy of the missionaries is to interfere as little as possible with native customs. It was found tlrat when they took to wearing trousers or skirts that they not only declined in health, but also in morality. He added that in many places in Papua a ball of twine would clothe a whole village.
