BOXING.
NEW ZEALAND BOXING ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Wednesday. The annual conference of the New Zcalaud ißoxing Association was held to-day. Resolutions were carried as follows: That the Premier lie asked to make the regulations under the Police Offences Act . and the rules of boxing, agree," it being 'considered that the three minutes bouts in minor events are too protracted: 'that, the delegates to the Australian 'conference he iii-tructed to vote for the ■'readiu-lmi'iit of weights, and that wight; now mvering professional eon<tonts be adopted for all amateur competitions; that the conference ask the Council to set no a committee to collect information and formulate a scheme for the creation of a commission, with legal .recognition, to inntrol boxing, and sub,'mit report to various associations; that 'travelling exrenses be paid to judges and referees who are appointed to act lit championship meetings; that the selection committee to select teams to 'represent New Zealand at the Australasian championship meeting shall consist of the referee and one of judges acting at current New Zealand championship meetings, together with a representative of the Council attending the meeting. A remit regarding direct representation on the governing' bod',; of the Association was turned down. It was resolved to recommend holding the next championship at Greymonth; that the annual championships be held alternately in the North and South Islands; that a rule be inserted in the rule book to the effect that in case of ■professional contests it shall be unlawful to "ive any appearance money, viz., win, lose, or draw; that no centre be allowed to hold more than four professional contests in each year. (This is not to apply to associations which have professional contests already in hand.) The conference adjourned the discussion on the proposal that professional boxers be compelled to go into the ring, even should an opponent be half a pound over the weight stipulated in their agreements. DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. Wanganui, Last Night. The boxing championships were confirmed this even::..,', with the following results: Bantam-weight—J. Harr.hy (Otago) beat Croskerv (Gisborne) on points. Feather-weight—J. AY. Oliver (Wellington) beat W. J. Watkins (Wanganui) on points; N. Bennetts (Auckland! beat Ban- (Wairarapa) on points, after a slashing encounter. Light-weight—M. -James (Auckland) v. E. Stewart (Wellington'). James was leading on points in the third round, when Stewart was disqualified for hitting in a break-away. Mussen (Greymouth) beat Vernall' (Christchurch) on points. Welter—Heeney (Gisborne) beat Il.ivili (Auckland). Heeney showed himself to he a fire-eater. Heavy-weight—Final: Savory 13.7 (Auckland) v. Tggulden 12.2 (Wairarapa). After putting up a very game fight for two rounds, Tggulden injured his right arm, and had to retire. Middle-weight Manning (Christchurch) beat Cadman (Auckland) on points.
