GENERAL STRIKE SPREADING PROTEST AGAINST POLICE TYRANNY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright St. Petersburg. July 22. The strikes arc regarded us a. recrudescence of tlie revolutionarv movement, reflecting tile strike of oil 'workers at Baku against inhuman conditions coupled with police tyranny. A 'hundred and sixty thousand are idle in St. Petersburg.'. Many- newspapcrs are not being published. 'J'ne streets are. swarming with police and Cossacks. The disturbances were renewed at Viborg. - Barricades were erected and many police were injured./ The police fired volleys and wounded several strikers. The' movement is spreading innd assuming a panRussian character.
SHIPYARD WORKERS JOIN THE STRIKE. Received 23, 10.30 p.m. St. Petersburg, July 23. Five thousand workers in the' Baltic shipyards have joined the strike.. One hundred and fifty tramcars were smashed and burned. The Novoe Vremya charges Germany with fomenting the strike.
