A cable announces the death in l.nad»n of the Hon. Jo'lm Blair Whyte formerly a member of the Legislative Council. He was a farmer in the Waiki'to. At Hawera on Wednesday members of the Catholic Church made presentations to Mr. and Mrs. D. Barry and daughters, who are taking up their residence in Ji'»' Plymouth. Mr. 11. A. A very old resident of Ilawke's" Bay, Dr. Alexander Todd, of Waipawa, died this week. He landed at Napier in the year IBC4. Soon after that he was appointed assistant-surgeon to the colonial defence force, and attached to the ,12th and 14th Regiments, then stationed at Waipawa, where lie sliortlv after began practice. In 1809 he became district coroner. He was a very popular man in the early days, but for a. number oh years had given up active practice.
