MEN BEFORE THE COURT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, July 22. In connection with the afternoon shift trouble in the Maitland mines, 519 miners pleaded guilty to striking. After an announcement by counsel that there was hope of the trouble being settlers, and pleas in extenuation of the men's action in agitating for the abolition of the afternoon shift, the 'President of the Industrial Court declared that it was due to the men that the matter should receive careful consideration, and reserved judgment. Each of tin' .Till Maitland miners was fined 80s, the Judge stating that lie was iinal)le to go behind the award made in respect of the men's claim regarding the afternoon shift.
