EVIDENCE BEFORE PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Education Committee of the House of Representatives has decided that the hearing of evidence taken in connection "with the Bible-in-Scliools movement will be open to the Press. On Friday next the evidence of Bishop Cleary, representing the Roman Catholics, will be taken, after which the committee will hear representatives of the National Schools Defence League and the Bible-in-Scliools League. If necessary, the hearing of evidence will be continued on the following Friday. On Wednesday, '29tli, the committee will hear evidence upon the Education Bill from representatives of educational bodies desiring to be heard.

PROTEST FROM MARLBOROUGH. Blenheim, Last Night. A preliminary protest >vas made by the Education ; Boanl to-day against the proposal to .merge Marlborough with Nelson. Strong feeling was expressed on the point. It was recalled that Marlborough was a milch cow for Nelson in pre-abolition times. The present independence was contended for ,but in the event of amalgamation being decided on, preference was voiced for union with Wellington.

DUNKDIN TIvACITERS PLEASED. Dunedin, Last Night. At a meeting of the. Dnnedin Head Teachers' Association to-night the following resolution, to he forwarded to the Minister of Education, was unanimously passed: "That this Association congratulates th'e Minister of Education oil the liberal staffing and gen;tou- provision in the matter of S'l'aries provided for in the Education "ill. espe'-ially the provision that subjec, to transfer, no teacher shall su/I" a >-e----duction of salary <-\viug to failing attendance." The Association recommended: that as early as possible "■ Dominion scheme, for promotion of i teachers should be IwQiigWt into operation.
