HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the N-'\v Plymouth High School Board yesterday there were present: Messrs E. Doekrill (chairman), \V. N. Ewing, M. Eraser and I). Tlutchen. PRINCIPAL'S REPORT. The principal (Mr. \V. H. Moyes) reported that on July 1, 8 and fl the school was inspected by Dr. Anderson, Assistant Inspector-General of Schools. At the time of his visit 30 boys sat for the senior free place examination. Dr. Anderson spoke highly of the school and the work done there. He again reminded the Board that the site of the old tennis court was now occupied by the new gymnasium building. It was essential that something be done at once to provide another court, for in spite of other pastimes, it was impossible to find recreation for all the boarders at week-ends. He also pointed out that the school prospectus, published in 1013, was hopelessly out of date, and the supply was almost exhausted. He asked that a new one be published for the third term of this year. The heater installed in tl.'e preparatory room wa« satisfactory, and he asked that another be bought' for the third form room, i'i which the fireplace needed reconstructing. The hearth in this room was only about four inches wide, and the danger of fire was a constant worry. He alio applied for electric light in the fifth form room, which was frequently used at night. ■

LADY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT. The lady principal (Miss Grant) reported that Dr. Anderson had examined the candidates for the free place examination. With regard to the proposed preparatory department, Miss Grant suggested that it would be to advertise now, as well as later in t'e> year, the fact that it was proposed to establish this department should sufficient inducement offer. She hail already received several enquiries regarding it. The reports were adopted. , In acceding to Miss Grant's request re advertising, members expressed the ouinion that at least twenty pupils I would he required for the preparatove I department to be self-supporting, and I unless it were so it could not be considered.
