MOTOR TAXES. Motor drivers are to be licensed and tihe State will constitute itself the sole motor registration authority under the provisions of the Government's Motor Bill. (License fees payable for annual licenses are as follows:—(1) In respect of every private motor car and of every motor omnibus and of every motor coach not exceeding 12-h.p., £2; exceeding 12-h.p. but not exceeding 16-h.p., £3; exceeding 2<i-h.p., but not exceeding 33-h.p., £7; exceeding 33-h.p., but not exceeding' 40-h.p., £10; exceeding 40-h.p., but not exceeding W>-h.p., £ls; exceeding 60-h.n., £2O; provided that a registered medical practitioner shall, in respect of a private motor-car, used principally for the purpose of his profession, be entitled to an allowance equal to half the annual fee. (2) Every public motor-car not exceeding 16-h.p., £1; exceeding 16-h.p., but not exceeding 2fi-h.p., £2; exceeding 26-h.p., £4. (3) Every motor cycle, 10s, and an additional fee of 10s if audi cycle is used to propel a trailer. (-1) Every trade motor-car not exceeding 16-h.p., £2; exceeding 16-h.p., but not exceeding 26-h.p., £3: exceeding 28-h.p„ but not exceeding 40-h.p,, £4; exceeding 40-h.p.. £5. (o) Any other motor, £i Exemptions: (a) Motor owned by a municipal corporation, town district, county or road district, drainage board, .river board, education board, 'harbor board or fire board, and used exclusively for general or local public purposes; (b) ambulance motors; (c) motors owned by and used exclusively for the purpose of any authority of a public nature defined as exempt by regulations under tiiis A.'f. The proceeds are to be utilised lirst in providing a due proportion of the cost of administering the Act, and then in special repair of roads generally used for motor traffic within the provincial district in which the fees were received. Fees received by local authorities from the animal licensing authority and onethird to the Consolidated Fund to he expended on repair of roads within a certain radius of the district of the local authority issuing the license. TEACHERS' SALARIES. Substantial increases of salary are given to teachers under the Education Bill now before the Ilouse of Representatives. The number of grades of schools is reduced from ten to seven. Following are the salaries for head teachers under the several arades: — Annual inGrade. Minimum. Maximum, crement.
Tliiisc salaries arc subject to deduction in the event of the teacher being uncertificated. The deduction in 10 per cent, of the salary in the case of every uncertificated head or sole teacher, and in the. case of every uncertificated assistant and 5 per cent, in the ease of every assistant or head or sole teacher who is the holder of a temporary certificate or license to teach, provided that in no case shall the salary he reduced below flOl). There are suh-grades to some of the seven grades. Following are the grades with their sub-grades, and the average attendance required to constitute the grades in mixed schools:—Grade 1— Attendance. 0-20, 2, 21- :!3; 3a, :)<!- 80: 3b. 81-120; 4a, 121—i;i0; 41), Mil—--200; 4c, 201—240: aa. 241-280; 01), 2513—20; sc, 321-300; sd, 3G1—400; <ia, 401—450; (ih, 451-500; 7a. 501-559: 7b, '551—(100, etc.
