MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Moa Road Board was held at Tnglowood on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs H. Trimble (chairman!, J. A. Bridgeman, W. G. Shoemark, Geo. Capper, Boanehamp, 'M. Hopson, A. Smith, ,f. Williams and A. K. Lawrence. REORGANISING THE STAFF. Messrs 11. Trimble, ,1, A. Bridgeman and G. Capper, the committee appointed to consider the question of re-organising the staff, reported that after consultation with Mr. E. C. Ro'binson, engineer, it was decided to recommend that the. Board should appoint a working overseer, at a salary of £3 I'2s per week. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report, spoke strongly in its favor. Some discussion ensued as to the advisability of appointing an overseer at the present juncttiie, when the merging of portion of the county would lessen the area and probably make it too costly for the balance of the district to pay the salary required. Mr. Trimble said that. the Board would still have a large area to control. A little discussion as to the possibility of saving money by only paying the balance of the surfacemen actual time worked (instead of "wet and dry"), took place, but the. majority of members did not favor it. After a proposal that applicants be asked to state salary required had lapsed for want of a seconder, the report was adopted. FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Foreman W. Bennett had been engaged' in patching,, 'wiitcr-tablhig, adverting j and general maintenance work on the Kohete, Mangaotea, Ratapiko and Kai- ' mata roads. Foreman Gl W r ilmshiirst had been engaged in patching and re-patching the Dudley West road. This road betwpeh the Mountain road and Windsor road was almost submerged ' with water in wet weather. There was no hope of keeping the water off, owing to the starved condition of the road. Bedford North road had been patched. 1 A bridge on this road wad getting- dangerous for heavy traffic. Metal contracts.on the Egmont South road had been completed. Some 2ft fiin pipes were urgently Required to replace a wooden culvert'on this road. Cement was required for ] pipe-making. Thirteen large pipes had been made during the month. Shinglenapping was in progress on the Bedford South road. He had to put on two men to get the job finished. Foreman T. B. Knofflock Had teen engaged in various work on the Wortley, Richmond, Bristol, Lincoln, Suffolk and Kaimata roads, Work was . required on the Davis, Kaimata North, 'Lincoln and Dudley East roads. Foreman F. Ludeman had been engaged at work on the Durham West, Surrey and Bedford roads. He had inspected the Waitcpuke bridge, and found that the'stringers were good, but the decking was rotten. Split timber could be obtained for decking. GENERAL. Mr. J. B. Simpson asked the' Board to notify a settler to remove a fence which was erected on the Cambridge . road, as he wished to erect a-fence along his road line.—No action taken,;' Mr. 11. B. Curtis wrote objecting; to part of section 10, block' 1-3-,; being left out of the 1 Everett road loan. ■ ! Mr. V. A. Macdonald, Fields'lnspector, Inglcwood, notified that he had inter--1 viewed the officer in charge of the Upland road areay arid the matter of ncixious ' weeds there was receiving attention, : ; T.
