NEW ZEALAND LOAN AND MERCANTILE AGENCY CO., LTD. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., (Stratford branch) report as follows: On Friday, lOth inst., we held a clearing sale on account of Mr Chas. Taylor, Surrey Road, Tariki. There was a good attendance, and everything offered sold at full market values:— Cow rugs, 8s; 2-leaf harrows, 325; milk cans, 10s to 15s 6d; copper and stand, 38a; spring-dray, £ls 155,-har-ness, £3; gig, £l6; cattle dog, £3; dairy cows, £l3 ss, £lO 10s, £0 15s, £9 ss, £9, -£B, £7 10s, £7, £6 153; the whole herd averaged £8 10s,-store cows, £4 15s to £4 2s 6d; weaner heifers, 45s to 49s 6d. On account of another client, Berkshire sow, £6; cows, £7 to £8 15s; mare £lB.
On Monday, 13th inst., we held a very successful clearing sale on account of Mr Wm. Walsh, Cheal road, Ngaerc. Notwithstanding that the day was very t cold and showery, there was a large attendance of the public, no less than 19 buyers bidding, competition being very keen. The Cheal road herd ayeraved £9 8s and the Finherty road herd £9. Milk cans, 19s to 20s; 2-ycar-old filly, £l7 15s; 2-year-old colt, £ls; 3-year-old colt, £22 10s; pony, £4. The Cheal road cows made as follows: From £8 10s to £l2 15s; three-teaters, £4 2s 6d to £6 10s. The Finnerty road herd showed more age, but were cows of good quality, prices being from £7 15s to £l3 ss; three-teaters, £5 2s 6d to £8 16s; heifers in calf rißing, two years old, £5; bull, £5; weaner heifers, 50s. Mr Walsh and others present expressed satisfaction with the way the auctioneers conducted the sale and with the results thereof. On Tuesday, 14th inst., wo held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when we had a moderate yarding. Competition was good, most of the stock being disposed of at the hammer or afterwards at advanced prices. Store cows made from 64s to 82s 6d; forward cows, £4 5s to £4 12s 6d; empty heifers, 62s 6d to 82s 6d; in-calf heifers, 85s to 87s 6d; weaner heifers, showing Holsteiu strain up to 52 6s; ordinary sorts, 32s fid to 355; good lines, 39s 6d to 43s to 465, and a, very nice line of Jerseys on account of Mr Frank Keightley were keenly competed for at from 52s Cd to 61s; these were a credit to Mr Kcightley; weaner Bteers, 48s to 555. Since we last reported, we have written a lot of private sales at the following rates:—Weaner heifers, 34s to lis; mixed weaners, 42s 6d to 50s; weaner steers, oOs to 565; in calf heifers, up to £5 12s 6d; lambs up to 16s; ewe 3 in lamb, 21s; fat wethers up to 245. The enquiry for sheep does not apear so good, but there is an improved demand for cattle of most varieties.
