Mr. ,T. S. S. Medley lias been somewhat seriously indisposed for tlie past few days. Mr. Caldwell, of the firm of Macky. Logan and Caldwell, merchants, is on a brief visit to New Plymouth. Mr. F. T. Bellringer town clerk, who has been attending the Muni, ipa'l Conference in Welington, returned by the mail train on (Saturday night. On enquiry at the hospital last night it was ascertained tliat Mr. Mchrten, the victim of the accident at Mokau "n Tuesday last, is progressing as well as can be expected. Mr. 0. Carter, chairman of the Taranaki Petroleum Company, who was in Wellington last week conferring with Sir Geo. 'Clifford, a member of tlio London Board, returned on Saturday evening. Mr. G. A. Holder, who up to the pre sent lias been secretary to the Farmers' Co-operative Organisation of New Zealand, has been appointed manager, and will' in future hold the dual position oi manager and secretary. Mr. TT. Bedford, who has been in Kngland for some months for health reasons, will arrive in Wellington by the SRiiiipc'liu about .Inly 29. It is understood that he is greatly benefitted by the treatment hfc has undergone. The funeral of the late Maori Takariingi Mete Kingi took place yesterday afternoon at Wanganui. The deceased was buried with military honors. About five thousand people were present, including leadinc natives from sill parts of the North fs'and,--Press Association. Mr. P. B. McCord, who has for some time been teller at the Tuion Bank of Australia. New Plymouth, lias received notice of transfer to the Melbourne office, and leaves on Wednesday to take up his new duties. Mr. McCord, during the time be has been in New Plymouth, has been a most popular oll'icer of the Bank, and a prominent golfer, and bas made a Targe circle of friends who will he glad to hear of his promotion. News was received on Sadndav moming of the. death of Mr. K C. Templet-, schoolmaster at Tarata. Mr. Templer, who ha.l been two or three, years in charge of the Tarata school,' spent six wc«ks in the New Plymouth Hospital recently, where he underwent an operation on his foot. He was to have resumed school work to-day. Mr. Templer was some, years ago secretary to Hie slia'tford Farmers' Association and the Midhirst Dairy Company, ami was a prom-' inent member of the Teachers' Institute.
The Theatre Royal Pictures are quV a rendezvous for Saturday night amusement lovers, as was again evidenced by the large audience on Saturday night at this popular house, which 'announces another bright change of photo-plays for to-night, including many new and original releases. The Kalem Company, noted for their fine 200Mt dramas, have sent a new story* entitled "A Million in Jewels," a picture of an oriental nature, taking as the subject a fascinating chase after a princess' jewels. Students of the art of boxing will be interested in the sporting film " Wolfe v. Carpentier Fight," showing how'jCarpcnticr took advantage of some fast tacI tics. Two splendid scenics are included, "Across the French Jura," and "Denver, Queen City of the Plains." A newsy "Oauroont Graphic," another drama, "An Enemy's Ai<V," by the Lubin Company, and several comedies make up the remainder of the programing. I v Variety is the outstanding feature of ! the new selection of films screened at the Empire Picture Palace on Saturday night, and the subjects are all excellently bandied and realistically presented. One of the most charming of animal studies is that entitled "The Jerboa" by the Pat-he Company. This quaint little animal, something between a large mouse and a -small rfquirrel, is shown on the film in all his native quaintness of habit The picture gives an insight into nature which could hardly be otherwise obtained. "Father's 'Hatband," is humorously concerned with a man, a maid, a stern father, a henpecked husband, and a new way of surmounting the difficulties which beset the path of true love. The "English l.azette number is one of the best, and most discursive of this popular series yet screened. "The Lovely Senorita," is another entertaining chapter in the (life of an unsuccessful disciple of Don Juan, and Jus adventures among the senoritas' of sunny Spain provide endless diversion "A Modern Jekyll and Hyde" by the Kalem company, is the principal offering in the dramatic line? The probiwiv of the dual existence is one of the most fascinating in the cult of human nature, and this film treats in a forcible and dramatic manner, a plot which is well-fitted to exemplify this elusive, kink in th e mmd of man The a<)( . u in the hands of a capable cast.
