I By Telegrapu—Press Association. I Wellington, Last Night. The high honor has been earned by two New Zealanders of heading the listof candidates in a military examination open to the Tcrritoral forces in Canada, South Africa, the Malay States and Australasia. The examination, which was • held in .March last, was a competitive | one for officers of the colonial military forces to secure direct commissions in the British regular army. Some ISO candidates completed, and two Now Zealand competitors have passed first and second respectively. These New Zealanders are Lieut. E. 11. Taylor, of the 3rd (Auckland) Regiment), who passed first, and Lieut. J. F. G. liislop, of the Bth (South Canterbury) Mounted Rifles, who secured second place. The total marks secured by these candidates are: Lieut. Tayler, 3307 (out of a possible 4500) ; Lieut. liislop, 21)71. The work of Lieut. Where possible, the successful candidates in this examination are given the opportunity of selecting the regiment to which they wish to be appointed. Lieut. The. success of the two New Zealand Territorial officers redounds to their credit, and is an eloquent tribute to the quality of the military instruction imparted to them under the new defence scheme. The examination is an, annual affair, and since its establishment the Dominion candidates have figured prominently in the results.
