I IMPUTATION' TO THE PREMIER. CLONK DIVISION PREDICTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. Opposition to any reduction in the three fifths majority on the licensing question, already represented by three deputations from the trade, the moderate party and the chartered clubs, was reinforced to-day by another large deputation to the Premier from the hopgrowers and barley-growers of the Dominion. The deputation pointed out that *«/ reduction of the majority ba«is meant a serious menace to thr hop tind barley indu-trie.. and quote>l figures to show the impoi lance of those industries. Mr. M&ssey said lie would convey the views of the deputation to Parliament. He could not predict what the reailt of the first division on the second reading would be. Members who represented the prohibition point of view eonaidered that the second reading would be «arried easily. The other side thought there was no clianee of such a result. Taking the average of the two statement*, he came to the conclusion that the division would be very close iuioed.
