Ili.s Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. E. Wilson) is expected to return to New Plymouth from Auckland to-day.
A Nelson telegram 'advises the death jof Mr. G. A. MacQuarie. a retired bank manager, well-known throughout New Zealand as a leading pigeon fancier. The ex-flovernor of Queensland, c-ir William McGregor, has left Sydney en route to England. He stated that ho hopes to return to Australia. —Press cable
iSenr.-Sergt. ITaddrcll, who for the past 13 years lias been in charge of the Xew Plymouth police station, will retire from active service after 42 years, at the end of September next. Sergt. ITaddrcll came to New Plymouth in July 1!)01. anil from that time has administered the work of the force in a manner which has entitled him to the respect and esteem of all who have come into contact with him. Before he came to New Plymouth, he was some 2(1 years in the Canterbury district, and tlir"e years in Wellington, Dannevirke, and elsewhere. After his retirement, Sergt. Iladdrelt intends to reside at Westown. New Plymouth.
