PohL who was sentenced to a long term and to deprivation of civil rights fOT selling military plants to a foreign Power, received a salary of £B4 per annum. He vras employed at clerical work in the military engineering headquarters, and thus had access to plans. De#iring money with a view to marrying, he sold the plans of Pillau Boven fortress to Colonel Basaroff, the Russian attache, for £26. Basaroff asked him for plans of the fortifications of Heligoland and Barkum. Pohl secured sketches, and arranged a ' meeting with Basaroff, but was arrested in the interval.
