NEW THEORIES ON THE SUN.
In the coiuvr oi a lecture at "Wellington, Mi' Joseph I'aylor, a Nelson mining ougineer and geologist, expounded some startling theories in relation to the sun. He said the sun had its drawing power not from its mass, but from its lack of mass. The earth, the sun. every molecule. man's body, are built on the same principle-- a vital energy in tin l vacuous interior made of a form of matter corresponding to the fourth dimension, lie considers the discovery of radium and radium-activity in the twentieth century was altering a great number of former theories concerning the structure ami composition of heavenly 'bodies, and the spectroscope, and other instruments vve.v also enlarging our knowledge. Sunspots hail been misconceived, and following on tiiis the functions and sinictirc of (lie sun were misconceive,!. The, sun did not shine, nor did it give out heal. H was only the centre, of focal reflections from all sides, from which centre radiated not light rays, but rays of a character similar to Kontgcu r.ivs, radium rays. They proceeded for millions of miles before they changed their character as a focal centre between the sun and the earth. The heat was ode produced by friction "wills the i-a) tie's a! mosphere, and from heat cauic light ; both these changes came alter the change at the local point, where niaen.'tism"began. This meant a ri'vWon ni our ideas concerning the structure of Hie sub. It was neilher solid, liquid nor gas, but it was tlie fourth state of matter that which would V got- from gas the same vvaa" as gas irotu a liquid, and a liquid from a solid these constituted the mass of Die sun. The centre of this mass bore an equal pressure from ,'d i sides, and had no chemical change, :1 ,, | motion, and so no heat or light.
