HOSPITAL BOARD.
The Stratford Hospital Board met yesterday, .Mr. J. .McAllister presiding. A deputation consisting of Messrs McCutchan and Court waited on the Board relative to the establishing of a cottage hospital at Whangumomona, the latter stating that the proposal for a district nurse had been dropped for the present. The deputation were confident of being able to secure a site, but they asked for informal ion as to the cost of upkeep and as to method of procedure. After some discussion, in wWch the required information was given, and the sympathy of the Board in the movement expressed, it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman, ;Mr. Sole and the secretary to enquire into and report on the probable cost.
CARNIVAL QUEEN.
The Fire Brigade, Railway stall", and Post Office stalF meet at the Fire Brigade Station at 7.;!0 sharp on Wednesday night to form a general committee and arrange a working programme to boost their Carnival Queen candidate. Anyone wishing to assist this committc will be welcomed at the meeting. The Stratford Horticultural Society held a very enthusiastic meeting on ■.Monday night in connection with the nomination of a Carnival Queen candidate. The meeting was unanimous in .its choice, and decided to begin work immediately. Miss L. Hart was the lady chosen. The United Friendly Societies' delegates met last night in the Council chamber to make their final choice of a candidate for the Carnival Queen contest. and a very strong band of workers was enrolled. The A. and P. Association, after conferring with the Carnival Executive, decided last nighl to nominate Miss McCullongh as the ''Country Cirl"' candidate. and a strong committee was set up to forward the lad.Cs candidature.
GENERAL
A second offender was fined iis yesterday oil a charge of insobriety. Settlers throughou. tile district are keenly awaiting tlie v mrt of the expert as to the site for the meat freezing works. The closing time for oilers of ■sites to he received is fixed for Monday, 'iflth inst.
During last month there were IS patients admitted to the Stratford Hospital. I"?, were discharged, and there was one death. Owing to the accommodation for females being all taken up. one case could not he admitted.
On (lie eve of his departure on transfer to Wellington, Mr. K. S. 0. Thomas, of tin' Stratford district office of the I'ulilie Works Department, was yesterday presented by the local staff with a fountain pen.
Another case of hankrunWy has occurred in Stratford, a laborer named Wm. Vincent 'having filed. A meeting of creditors is to lie held on the 22nd inst.
According to the Health Inspector's re.port. there were two scarlet fever eases in the Stratford district- last month, one at Kltliam and the other in the borough. At yeslenla..'s meeting of the Hospital Unard. a vote of sympathy with the matron. Miss O'Brien, on account of the death of her father, was passed.
