The Waitara Mail of yesterday has the following:—On Saturday, for the first time this season, the Tikorangi ladies' hockey team tasted defeat, when Whakatika A defeated them by 4 goals to 1, Miss T. Alexander scoring for Tikorangi. The result of this game makes Tikorangi and Whakatika A level for the championship; and the play-off, if necessary, will take place at Inglewood, where it is hoped a more satisfactory, referee than the. one appointed for Saturday's game will be in charge. Spectators on all sides were highly indignant at Mr. Hislop'B treatment of the Tikorangi team, and some words took place between/two loyal supporters and the referee. Prior to Saturday Tikorangi had scored seven successive wins (they downed Saturday's victors by <1 goals to 1 in the first round), and have an admirable record, having scored 38 goals, while only twelve have been netted against them. Given fair play, tho team should carry off the honors, for, at least, the northern enJ, while the annexing of the coveted prije, the cup, should not be beyond their ability.
