PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting was held at Rahotu on Thursday. Present: Messrs Young (chairman), Harvey, Cassie and Holmes. RESIGNATION. Mr. J. F. Phillips sent in his resignation as a member of the Hoard, having left Ra'hotu for Urcnui. The chairman eulogised Mr. Phillips' service while a member of the Board, and regretted the necessity for his resignation. Tiie clctlc was instructed, as returning officer, to iliave the vacancy filled. IMPOUNDING.

The impounding complaint made by Mr. Willcox in a letter to tlie Board at the previous meeting was again discussed. The Board decided to hold the matter over for further enquiry. VALUATIONS. The Board discussed the new valuations, and voiced a complaint that many of the ratepayers had not got notice of <"!ic new valuations. The Board requested the clerk to write to the Valuer-General, suggesting that the time for lodging objections should be extended. PJPE SHED.

The clerk reported tfiat he was authorised to pay the cheque for the site'discussed by the Board. The committee, Messrs Holmes and Hiekey, having selected another site to that discussed by the Board, lie could not pay the cheque until the action of the committee was confirmed. The Board confirmed the action of the committee. " The tender of Mr. P. Thompson, at £72 19s, was accepted for the erection of the shed.

\ KAWEORA ROAD. 1 Messrs Chamberlain and Cox waited I on the Hoard on behalf of the ratepay- | era of Kawoora road, requesting the 1 Board to open up the road to Wircmu I road. —T-Jie foreman was instructed to prepare ah estimate of the. cost of the !\vork, and when the. settlers sign the necessary papers, the Board will go on with raising the loan.

ARAWHATA ROAD. The county engineer waited on the Board in connection with tlhe request of the Board's staff that the county contactors should shift camp from tlie Arawhata road. The engineer said the plant would be on the road for two or three weeks. The Board agreed to the county plant and contractors remaining, providing the Board was indemnified against possible accident.

PERMANENT STAFF. The foreman was instructed to reduce the number of permanent hands to four during the winter months. COMPLAINT. Mr. O'Brien, lhaia road, complained that the foreman had neglected this road, and it was now a disgrace to the foreman. Mr. Feaver wrote requesting that some improvement be ell'eeted on this road nciiv his section. The work will be done in the spring.

FOREMAN'S RKPORT. Foreman Kennedy reported that 40yds of crushed metal were required for Opua road: that a large culvert had broken down by Mr. Wade's place; filling and metalling had been done and watercourse, straightened on Ngariki road; Mr. K. husk bad done 41% chains of drain-cleaning on Whitcombe road, lie had interviewed Mr. Anglesley, poundkeeper, with respect to Mr. Wilk'ox's complaint, made at last meeting, and the poundkeoper had reported that everything was done legally. About 'lOOyds of crushed metal had been put on Lower Kahui road, which would be blinded as soon as convenient. The erecting of notice-boards requiring stock-drivers to take the Gregory road had had a beneI ficial effect. ' lie recommended gravelling footpath from Main road to the. Aiu'liean Church, as the stock 'had cut up the footpath. He had placed six 1-2-inch pipes leading from Kina road to the school. The. Opua work- was held over till the summer time. The gravelling of the footpath to the. Anglie:in Church was authorised. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to :C320 were passed for payment.
