AWARDS FOR BRAVERY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 11. The court of directors of the Royal Humane Society made the following awards to-day:— To Cora Maney (14), and Leila Maney (12), for rescuing Ruth Mackay (3), from drowning at Waipawa on 30th January, 1914, a framed certificate to To Michael Fahey Coyle (38), for attempting to rescue Albert Charles Wyatt (8). from drowning at Dargaville on 19th January, 1914, a letter of commendation. To William Guy Edwards (20), for rescuing Frederick Arthur Morgan (10), and attempting to rescue William Teviotdale (30) from drowning at Foxton, on Ist May. 1914. a bronze medal, To John Patrick Culhane, (34), lor attempting to rescue William Maasey (28), from explosion and fire at the Soltar works, Freeman's Bay on 25th July, 1913, a silver medal. To Joseph Pou (28), for lcscuing ten persons from drowning at Otama Kauotunu. On the date mentioned above, a boat capsized, containing several persons, about two chains from the beach, throwing the occupants into very deep water. All of them would certainly have been drowned, as they could not swim, had it hot' ken ifotf..tW prompt action of Pou, who succeeded in rescuing 'eight of the party, but had some difficulty m rescuing the other two ladies, as their feet had become entangled m a rope of the boat, but after some exertion, hn succeeded in doing so. A gold medal. To John Robert Jeremson (42) for rescuing Thomas Simmonds (57), from drowning at Wellington on 2Sth January Wl4, a letter of commendation. To' George Hamerton (21) for rescuing Arthur King (7), from drowning at Mercer on 18th February, 1914, a letter of commendation To Leslie Carl Lipscorabe (14), for reccuing John Williams (9) from drowning at Waiharaha beach, Onehunga, on I4th January, 1914, a framed certificate. To Joseph Pereira (35) for attempting to rescue Thomas Lowe (40), from drowning at Ocean Beach, Dunedin, on 18th January, 1914, a bronze medal. To James Gunn (26), for rescuing Thomas E. Hanlon, and attempting to rescue Arthur Pole from drowning at Tcamroa, on Bth May, 1914, bronze medal.
