Thackcr, who was a great believer in the prowess of "Diok" Arnst, ex-cham-pion sculler of the world, and one of his staunchost backers, had a chat with .the e.x-clnunpion in connection with his future pro-poets in the sculling world. .It was announced some time back that Arnst had se' his mind on a last effort lo regain the honors which he lost to Jiarry in the. memorable race on the Thames, The conditions, it was- stated, were that Arnst must go into hard training for mx months, and if at the end of that time he showed signs of regaining his old-time power, he was to and to take to water again , and endeavor to succeed in the hardest task a retired athlete can set himself—namely, to come back lo h>» old form. "Dick" is very determined and most hopeful of being able to "'-onic back," Rlid Dr. nhiu-ker. "and a present is. in the best of health. He has undertaken to assist a nm-holder. who has, taken up a section of rough country, in clearing his J.'ilid, and for some time past has been 'cr.-gagod in hu-h-wbaeking.
