BOWLING.

TAKANAKJ CENTRE. ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Tairanalt Howling centre, in the New Plymoutl Club's pavilion yesterday, Mr W. J Penn presided over delegates represent • ing New Plymouth, Filzroy. liiglewood YYaitara, Stratford, llawera, Piliania. REPORT. \l'!ie annual report congratulated members on a successful season, and un enjoyable tournament. 'J-'he latter had resulted in a small delieit which was met by a small levy upon the competing clubs. The balance-sheet for the year also showed a small debit balance, but this had been met by the generosity of two members, so that the year would be commenced with a clear sheet. The committee would propose that the entrance fee for rinks be increased so that the next tournament might pay for itself. The alternative was to reduce the expenses either by giving less valuable prizes or by a change in the system of providing refreshments. An increase in entrance fee was recommended. The banner competition, which was wan by the New Plymouth club, after a keen contest, had not been controlled in the mosb satisfactory manner possible, and proposals would be made to emend this. In commenting on the matters to come up for discussion, the, report drew attention to the question of the annual meetings- of the centre and the elubsL At present, it was pointed out, the clubs held their annual meetings later than July, while it was necessary for the centre to hold its meeting in that month in order to comply with the rules of the Dominion Association. It would obviously be better for cluibs to hold their meetings first, and appoint their delegates to the centre whose annual meeting would follow in July when nominations to the Dominion Executive would be made. The constitution and rules of the Dominion Association were only adopted in December last, and it was only to be expected that the Centre and club rules would require some adjustment to make them work smoot'ily with the. Association's rules. Thanks were expressed to the New Plymouth and Fitzroy clubs for the use. of their greens for the annual tournament, to the Stratford club for the use of its green for the final banner match, and to tire hon. secretary; Mr O. N. Firth. The report and balance-sheet were adopted after a brief discussion in which concurrence was expressed in the views stated on the questions of entrance fees to the tournaments and dates of annual club meetings. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers was, on the suggestion of the president, deferred until a date to he fixed when the new delegates to the centre should have been appointed by the annual meetings of the various clubs affiliated. DOMINION ASSOCIAIJION. Mr Morris Casey, of Auckland, was appointed the centre's nominee to the position of president of the Dominion Bowling Association, Mr Eraser to that of treasurer, and Messrs S. Baildon, J. Kilgour, Rankin and Goldicutt, all of Auckland, as members of the Council RULES. 'Plie meeting discussed a model set of rules provided by the Association, and these, with minor alterations, were adopted. GENERAL. The levy to the centre was fixed at Is per head from tlie members of all affiliated clubs, which will include the Dominion Association's levy. The minimum subscription from any club was fixed at £1 Is. The entrance fee to the tournament was fixed at 10s per head. like question of receiving entries from clubs ovtside the centre for the next tournament was held over until tlie hater meeting, pending discussion by the clubs at their annual meetings. Notice of motion was received from the Hawera ■ club's delegate that the "open door" policy be preserved at the tournament. BANNER RULES. A brief set of rules governing the banner eompetition was adopted. These lo not differ greatly from the unwritten rules hitherto observed, an exception bong that it is now provided that all rinks competing iu a match shall count for the banner, not the three highest only, ro prevent a numerically strong club 'rom playing so many rinks against a weaker club as to practically force the atter to play every member a scale of liinimum numbers of rinks to be played >vas adopted, according to the memberjhip of the weaker club.
