The, Borough inspector brought several eases of breaches -of the Borough by-laws, a.s follow: — .Fred Mace and Wm. Bowdcn, for leaving vehicles in the street unattended, were each lined 5s and costs 7s. Wm. Hardwick, failing to legi-slex 'i dog, H)s and 7s costs. jLLtreti M. Skeates', for leaving a ishop counter on the street *o as to block the footway, 5.-, nnd costs 7a. Alieliael Jone-|, proprietor of the Breakwater 'bu,s, was charged with' having failed to run the 'bit, in accordance with the advertised time-table. The driver had not been supplied with a copy of the time-table. SHOPKEEPERS IX TLIOUBLK. Tlie inspector of Shops and Offices, ('Mr. W. proceeded again-t Harry J. Pric ior having failed to close Ms shop at 1 j clock on Thursday, dime 18, the statutory half-holiday for shops iti the Borough of New Plymouth. 'JJlie defendant was represented' by Mr. A. Bewley. Witness had previously heard cc-..:-plaints that tobacco was- being sold on Thursdays. To Mr. Bewley: He was not suggesting that any tobacco was sold by Price on Thur days. The inspector said that the particular shop did not, come under the special ■exemption clause IS, whi.h allowed fishmongersl, fruiterer-, con;''-.'lionet's, etc., who carried on these bii-ines-- t-s exclusively, to keep their shop, open. Mr. Bewley said his. client- admitted the sale of the eigarate-, but in doing so was ignorant of the fact that it affected his rigid to keep open his shop : continuously. Price had observed the hours religiou-ly, ami had imposed no < hardship on the tobacconists by illicit sales. Tiie inspector said the cigarettes had not been exposed for sale, but had been , kept behind a frosted glass sliding door. ' There was no suggestion that cigarettes ■ had been sold after the hours allowed. His Worship imposed a nominal tine of KM and 7s costs. Willie Kong, who was represented by , Mr. A. H. Johnstone, pleaded guilty to i a similar oll'enee and was fined a- like amount. BREAKING AND ENTERING. Gordon Doyle was then charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of Raugi Watine, at Brixton, near 'Waitara, and stealing greenstone articles <;f the total value of £2O lis. Seiiior-sci ;'-:.
