A "BOOM" TIME.
MB. MASSEY'S OFIIMISM. NO DEARTH OF EMPLOYMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. f Wellington, Last Night. > An optimistic reply to a deputation iwas made 'by the Prime Minister to-day on the subject of trade prospects for .the coming year. It had been represented to iiim that there was so much unemployment that the Government should be careful with its immigration policy. "As a matter of fact," said Mr. Massey, "so far as farm labor and domestid labor are concerned, there is plenty of employment. Indeed, the demand is unsatisfiedi I 'have received a number of ■communications from farmers' organisations, complaining that farmers arc compelled to go out of growing cereals on account of the scarcity of suitable !aJjor. So far as ordinary employment is concerned, there was an impression tlmt we were going to Oiave a hard winter. The Labor Department informs me that it is able to find employment for all able-bodied applicants who come along on the variqus public works going on in different parts of the Dominion. We are going to liave a time in the spring and summer, I fancy, and there will be a tremendous demand for all classes of labor."
