The press take a gloomy view of the prospects of the trophy being retained and predict the greatest difficulty of coping with the Australasians. M'Loughlin and Williams are regarded as certainties for inclusion in the team. London, July 7. The Davis Cup preliminary tie, England v. Belgium, is now being played at Folkestone. In the singles, Mavrogordatto (England) beat >Be Borman (>—l, o—3, B—B,8 —8, and Parke (England) beat Watson 6—2. 6—2, 6 —3. The winner of this tie will have to play France before August 1. The (Australasian team will leave England for America on July 11, and will have to meet Canada, probably on July 23, 24, 25. The winners will meet Belgium. France «r British' Isles about August 0, 7, and 8, and the challenge round against America will take place on August 13, 14, and 15.
