DISCUSSION BY BOROUGH CCUNCTI At tin- meeting Of the Council 01: Monday evening, the Mayor moved thai the County Council be earnestly askci! to deter the erection of a toll gate at Waipuku until after the Counties Confejence. lie said that something might arise at the conference whidh woiill alter t'he decision of the. County. To his mind there, was 110 doubt that a toll gate at Waipuku would affect the torn. At the same t;me ho sympathised with the county over tlio difficulty in financing, but lie hoped they hastily erect toll gates. Cr. King thought that- the Cowry might deem it ftdvisablo to surround the town with toll gate. He thought the motion was* in the right directum and regretted it was not moved earlier. Or. Richards- thought it was a delicate matter (.0 interfere in another local body's affairs]; lie (recognised the County's difficulties, -but he considered the boroughs were placed in an unfortunate position as the people in the county used the borough roads without contributing to their support, the boroughs being unable to erect toll gat>s. The motion was carried.
