Butter. —There is a firmer tendency, owing to the decreased French kind outputs following on a dry spoil. There are few Colonial arrivals. Prices are mostly nominal 1 . .Some New South Wales is offering, salted being quoted at 102s to 100s, and unsalted at 104s to 108s. N'.\v Zealand is very scarce, and prices are nominally unchanged. Danish, 119s to 121s.

Cheese. —T'le market is firmer; white is scarce, and is quoted at 63s to 645, there is a Large supply of colored, and prices are 03s to 03s "Od. Bacon.—Prai-tically unsaleable; Australian 52s to 545.

Wheat. —Weak under pressure from America, where a big winter crop has been harvested under favorable conditions. European crops have gonerally improved, though English and Russian crops are suffering from a shortage of rain. English closed steadier. Indian is being held for 3d more than is offered. Australian ppot is quoted at 38s.

On the same day, at Midhirst, for Mr. Alec. Brown's sale, there was a large attendance of buyers from all parts of the district. The herd of cows were a!l grade Jerseys, bred by the vendor, and in fine condition, reflecting great credit on Mr Brown's breeding. Buyers quickly appreciated the good line offered and made keen competition, oows in calf selling at from £l3 6s to £23 10s, and two in milk £8 l(h and £9, making aa exceptionally good average of £Ki jcr head. On account sf other vendors: Dairy cows sold at from £5 10s to £9; Jersey weaner heifers, £'2 17s 6(1; springing heifers, £B. On Thursday, 2nd inst., for Mr. W. J George's sale, on the Barrett road, there was' a good attendance, -with brisk competition for the heard of dairy cows, which, being a nicely selected line, mostly Jerseys, made a good average of £9 lfls.
