LEAKS INCREASING." Per Press Association. Westport, Saturday. Since the steamer Kauri was placed ■ alongside the wharf the leaks have increased considerably, and the vessel lists from side to side. In addition to her own pumps, the Terawhiti's pumps were got to work to-day ami kept the water down materially, allowing a diver to go down and examine the damage below the water line. It is intended to place the vessel on the hard. The nautical enquiry was adjourned till next week. BEACHED FOR TEMPORARY REPAIRS. Westport, Last Night. The Kauri was this morning beached on "the hard" above the wharves for repairs. It was found that she was ! taking in a considerable quantity of ' water, and that it would be unsafe to attempt to take her to Port Chalmers I ifor docking until temporary repairs \ had been effected.
