In the fourth heat Mayence beat Jesus College, Cambridge, by threequarters of a length. Erie Fairbairn (an Australian) stroked the Jesus College boat. There was a hard race, and ■the boats were level after two miles when Mayenec went ahead. The time was 7min 42scc.

In the Diamond Sculls, Colin Stuart beat Gollan by a length. The first three heats "of the Grand Challenge Cup were won by American .crews.

A WIN FOR AMERICA. Received 3, 7.40 p.m. London, July 3. In the Grand Challenge.heats, Harvard beat Leander by a length in 4min o7see. This was it splendid race, the contestants being practically level until near the post, when Harvard spurted.

UNSPORTSMANLIKE TACTICS. Received 3. 11.20 p.m. London, July 3. Gollan was unable to strike' fast enough, but sculled powerfully and consislcntlv, with a plucky spurt at the finish. Tlie Daily Telegraph says Stuart marred his victory by using his lead to "wash" Gollan, similar to McVillv's tactics in lt>l3.
